“We come together in this Holy Place,
To listen to the language of the Heart.
It cannot speak in words;
It cannot think in thoughts
The language of the Heart is silence.”
In the Beginners’ Class we discuss the fundamentals of Vipassana meditation, our core practice, as well as other sitting traditions and techniques. Our Beginners’ Course seeks to provide you with the fundamentals of meditation. In the first class we will begin with five basic concentration objects and ask you to choose one of the five. We will ask you to practice with that object for a few minutes each day before the second class and also to keep a journal of your progress.
With each successive class we will look at different styles of meditation, slowly integrating mindfulness practice into your concentration technique. By the end of the course our goal is for you to settle on the style that works best for you.
In addition to the technique of meditation - we will spend a few minutes each class helping you to understand how your meditation practice fits into the larger framework of the Dharma. In other words, you will learn the “why” of meditation as well as the “how.” There will be ample time at the end of each class for questions and comments. Although we will not work out of a particular book, we will have handouts for reading at the end of each session.
The 6 Week Course fee is $95 per person.
Pre-registration is helpful but we will accept the $95 course fee at the door if you prefer to pay by cash or check.
Please Note: When you register online, it is for the upcoming series of 6 courses only. You will receive an automated confirmation from Paypal.
The course fee is refundable (less a $5 administrative charge) up to one week before the first course. After that date, your fee cannot be refunded, but you may apply your payment to a future course series. We only offer one cancellation and rescheduling. It you must cancel a second time, we are unable to refund your payment.
Your on-line payment will confirm your course registration.

Anyone interested in deepening their understanding of the Buddha-dharma is welcome to attend. Please email Tica for the address and directions or if you have questions about the sit.

We meet at a private home in Long Beach every Thursday (WAS Wednesday) evening, from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. We begin promptly at 7p.m. with a thirty minute sit, followed by a lively discussion of the reading assigned for the week. This group is best suited for experienced meditators looking to deepen their understanding of the Buddha-dharma. If you are a beginning meditator, please consider first learning the basics of meditation. Our six-week Beginners’ Course in Mindfulness Meditation is a great place to start. This is not to suggest that a beginner is unable to sit still for thirty minutes, but rather that thirty minutes is long enough to establish unskilful techniques, which might prove hard to undo later on. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) so we can add your name to the Dharma Study E-list. Periodic reminders will be emailed with suggested reading assignments. Chairs are available but we ask that you bring your own sitting gear, if possible.
Please email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for the address and directions or if you have questions about the sit.
The Dharma is priceless, so we can’t put a monetary value on the teaching. Although there is no fee for this study group, dana is gratefully accepted in support of the teacher and LBM.
You are invited to discuss any questions regarding the Dharma directly with our teacher, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Upcoming dharma books will explore other Buddhist traditions from the point of view of Ch’an master Ta Hui, Dogen and Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.
