All Day Saturday Retreat

Led by our guiding teacher Victor Byrd

In addition to our weekly sits, Long Beach Meditation provides an opportunity for a deeper more intensive meditation experience at our All Day Saturday retreats in a beautiful meditative setting in Rancho Palos Verdes.

We alternate sitting and walking meditation and eat lunch in silence. There is an afternoon dharma talk, followed by a gentle yoga session with emphasis on mindfulness to the body and movement. We conclude with the chant of lovingkindness and close in a talking circle for those who wish to stay.

Read meditators candid and personal reflections from previous retreats by clicking Retreat Reflections.

Travis Ott-Conn
Travis has been an avid yogi and asana practitioner since 2006. Focused on experiencing and absorbing knowledge of the postures, philosophy and lifestyle of a yogi and incorporating it into his way of life. A foot fracture, knee injury and other health issues had all been motivating factors in drawing Travis to yoga. His experiences in his personal practice as well as a love of helping others to experience the benefits for themselves motivate him to teach!

He completed his yoga teacher training with the International Sivananda Yoga Vendanta Centre in Garopaba, Brazil in February 2008. Being a CSULB graduate in fine art and an illustrator in the bio-medical field has also informed his personal experience. His classes focus on relaxation, breathwork and slow, systematic alignment into the various yoga postures.

Addie DeHilster
Her teaching incorporates the exhilarating movement of Hatha Flow with a strong grounding in safe alignment. She also loves to guide students through the long-held poses of Yin Yoga that are designed to enhance the connective tissues, energy meridians, and vital organ systems. In Restorative Yoga, she helps students release stress and rebalance the body and nervous system. Through each of these influences, she guides students into the exploration of mindful awareness - in motion and stillness.

Addie received her 200-hour Yoga Teaching Certification from Karuna Yoga, in addition to completing a 30-hour training in Kids Yoga, both under the mentorship of Kelly Wood. She completed an additional 50-hour intensive training in Yin Yoga with Bernie Clark at Semperviva Yoga College in Vancouver, BC, Canada. She continues her studies with Leeann Carey in the therapeutic Yaapana Yoga style, and serves as a Yaapana Yoga Ambassador.

"I believe that living well is an art unto itself. Your yoga practice can greatly enhance the way you experience life, as the needs of your body, mind, and spirit are met with awareness and creativity."

Danny Fisher Guest Speaker

Guest Teacher

We are pleased to announce that Danny Fisher will visit our Sangha on Sunday, May 27th, 2012.

Rev. Danny Fisher, M.Div., D.B.S. (Cand.), is a professor and Coordinator of the Buddhist Chaplaincy Program at University of the West. Prior to his appointment at UWest, he served on the adjunct faculty for Antioch Education Abroad’s Buddhist Studies in India program. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Religion from Denison University and Master of Divinity from Naropa University, and is currently finishing his doctorate in Buddhist Studies at UWest.

Danny was ordained as a lay Buddhist minister by the Buddhist Sangha Council of Southern California in 2008. In addition, he is certified as a mindfulness meditation instructor by Naropa University in association with Shambhala International. He also serves on the advisory council for the Upaya Buddhist Chaplaincy Program, and in 2009 became the first-ever Buddhist member of the National Association of College and University Chaplains.

He says of himself and his work: I’m just a Buddhist minister trying to benefit beings. That’s all. Like anybody else, I’m also just trying to wake up. My role as a minister is simply about service. I see it as my responsibility to be available to fellow practitioners of all traditions. This could mean teaching dharma if I’m asked, or offering spiritual care and counseling. This could also mean pushing a broom in the Buddha hall, or volunteering to help a neighboring community that needs assistance. That’s all.
